集 (Gather) is a pop-up event in Melbourne that is created in response to the social issue of the declining use of ethnic languages within Melbourne’s diverse cultural communities. Though we are surrounded with vast amount of different cultures and languages, monolingual English practice became the prominent and most convenient choice of communication in Melbourne. This event invites people to interact with and celebrate language, encouraging participants to reconnect with and appreciate the diverse and beautiful cultures that make up Melbourne’s global community. This project includes a variety of outcomes including riso printed promotional posters and pamphlets, giftbags, websites and social media posts.
